Governors of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust: Non-Executive Director Appointments

The Governors of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint two new Non-Executive Directors, with specialist interests one in Digital and the other Finance.

About the Role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will work alongside the Chair, Executive Directors and Non-Executive Directors as an equal member of the Board. Together, you will be responsible for strategic leadership, development and overall performance of the Trust.

This is a significant opportunity to play a central role in shaping the financial and operational success of a high-performing and ambitious organisation. You will provide visible and independent leadership, supporting the Board in maintaining strong financial stewardship, driving operational excellence, and ensuring robust oversight of performance against the Trust's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring financial and performance risks are identified, managed and escalated appropriately
  • Seeking assurance on internal controls
  • Collaborating with other committees to provide comprehensive oversight
  • Building strong relationships with Board members and executives
  • Bringing independent judgement, external perspective and constructive challenge
  • Supporting the Trust's values, strategy and objectives

Required Experience and Expertise

A Non-Executive Director will typically bring senior-level experience in areas such as (but not necessarily restricted to):

  • Commercial experience at senior level; bringing strong insights and knowledge of innovations within digital media and technologies.
  • Governance experience; bringing experience of strategic planning, transformational change combined with financial, risk and performance management.
  • Specific expertise relating to the work of the organisation, such as clinical or related issues in a health service, regulatory or academic field, consumer/customer focus, patient advocacy, market management, organisational development, commissioning, contract management, local government, economic analysis, change management, HR, education and training or legal expertise.
  • Relevant finance experience gained at a senior level, with a strong understanding of financial management, governance and oversight.
