Help shape the future of gambling-harm prevention.
TPP CIC is seeking 3 volunteer NEDs with professional and/or lived experience in gambling harm, strategic development or community engagement.
What difference will you make?
The Non-Executive Directors will help The Prevention Project strengthen its governance, credibility and long-term impact as we grow.
- Each NED will bring a different perspective, helping us make better-informed strategic decisions while ensuring that the organisation remains focused on its purpose preventing gambling harm through education, early intervention and community engagement.
- For a growing organisation, having people with relevant professional expertise and lived experience around the Board is particularly valuable. Our NEDs will provide constructive challenge, specialist knowledge and independent oversight, helping us identify opportunities, understand risks and develop sustainably.
The Gambling Harm & Recovery NED will help ensure that our approach remains informed by relevant experience, evidence and understanding of gambling harm, addiction, recovery, safeguarding and appropriate support pathways. Their contribution will help us strengthen the quality and credibility of our prevention work.
The Strategic Development NED will help us think about the organisation's long-term development, sustainability and growth. Their experience can help us consider new opportunities, challenge our thinking and ensure that TPP develops in a structured and sustainable way.
The Community Engagement & Development NED will help us understand how to take our work further into local communities, particularly reaching people and communities who may not engage with traditional services. Their insight, relationships and understanding of grassroots engagement will help shape how we develop our community presence.
Lived experience is particularly valuable to us. Gambling harm affects real people, families and communities, and we want those experiences to be represented in our decision-making. We believe that combining lived experience with professional knowledge can help us develop prevention work that is both credible and relatable.
The NEDs will also strengthen TPP's ability to build relationships with organisations across education, sport, communities, public services and other relevant sectors. Where appropriate, their knowledge and networks may help us reach new audiences, develop partnerships and increase our impact.
Most importantly, the roles will help ensure that as TPP grows, we maintain strong governance and remain accountable to the people and communities we exist to support.
The contribution of the NEDs will therefore extend beyond attending quarterly meetings. They will help shape the organisation's direction, challenge our thinking, bring valuable expertise to the Board and help us build a stronger foundation for the next stage of The Prevention Project.
Their work will ultimately support our wider aim of helping people understand gambling and its risks earlier, recognise potential harm and access appropriate support before problems become more serious.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Previous Board or Non-Executive Director experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in people who can bring professional expertise, lived experience, or a combination of both, and who are comfortable contributing constructively to a growing, founder-led organisation.
-
Across the three NED roles, we are looking for people who can demonstrate:
- Independent judgement and the confidence to constructively challenge ideas, proposals and decisions
- A genuine commitment to preventing gambling harm and improving outcomes for individuals, families and communities
- Relevant professional experience within the area of the NED role
- Lived experience of gambling harm, addiction, recovery, financial vulnerability or supporting someone affected by these issues is highly desirable
- The ability to think strategically and contribute at Board level without becoming involved in day-to-day operational management
- Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with the Managing Director and other Board members
- An understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, risk and responsible governance
- A willingness to ask difficult questions when appropriate while remaining supportive and constructive
- The ability to bring a different perspective and help identify opportunities, risks or issues that may not otherwise be considered
For the Gambling Harm & Recovery role, relevant experience may include gambling treatment and recovery, addiction services, public health, mental health and wellbeing, safeguarding, research and evaluation, treatment and referral pathways, commissioning, youth services, education or community support.
For the Strategic Development role, relevant experience may include strategic development, business leadership, organisational growth, corporate strategy, social enterprise, business development, commissioning, fundraising and income generation, sponsorship, stakeholder engagement or strategic planning.
For the Community Engagement & Development role, relevant experience may include community development, grassroots engagement, youth work, voluntary and community organisations, public health, social care, education, local community networks, community events, local partnerships or experience reaching underserved communities.
We particularly value people who understand the importance of lived experience alongside professional knowledge. Personal experience of gambling harm, supporting a family member or someone close to you, or professional experience of working with people affected by gambling, addiction or related issues can provide an important perspective to our Board.
We are not looking for people who simply want a title or a passive position. We want NEDs who will engage with the organisation, read Board papers, ask questions, offer constructive challenge and use their experience to help The Prevention Project develop responsibly and sustainably.
At the same time, we recognise that people bring different strengths. You do not need to meet every criterion listed above. We are interested in the contribution each individual can make and welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

What will you be doing?
The Prevention Project CIC is a founder-led organisation, with the Managing Director responsible for day-to-day operations and delivery. The Non-Executive Directors form part of the Board and provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, specialist expertise and strategic perspective. We are recruiting three NEDs, each bringing a different area of expertise.
The key responsibilities are to:
- Attend approximately four Board meetings per year and review relevant papers in advance.
- Provide independent and constructive challenge to the Managing Director and wider Board.
- Use your professional experience, knowledge and/or lived experience to help shape the strategic development of The Prevention Project.
- Contribute specialist insight within your area of expertise.
- Help identify opportunities, risks and priorities as the organisation develops.
- Support effective governance, safeguarding, risk management and responsible decision-making.
- Where appropriate, use your professional networks and connections to help create opportunities, partnerships and greater reach for TPP.
- Bring the perspective of the communities and people we aim to support into Board discussions.
- Help ensure that our work remains relevant, responsible, evidence-informed and focused on preventing gambling harm earlier.
We are particularly interested in people who can bring lived experience alongside professional expertise. For the Gambling Harm & Recovery role, this could include personal experience of gambling harm, supporting someone affected by gambling, or professional experience in gambling treatment, addiction, recovery, public health, safeguarding or related services.
For the Strategic Development role, we are looking for experience in areas such as organisational growth, strategic planning, business leadership, social enterprise, commissioning, fundraising, income generation or organisational development.
For the Community Engagement & Development role, we are looking for experience of community development, grassroots engagement, youth work, voluntary and community organisations, public health, social care, education or reaching underserved communities.
The roles are voluntary and are designed to be a manageable commitment alongside existing employment or other responsibilities. Board meetings will generally take place quarterly, with occasional input between meetings where appropriate.
NEDs will not be expected to manage TPP's day-to-day operations, deliver sessions, manage staff or take responsibility for routine operational decisions. The purpose of the role is to provide genuine Board-level governance, expertise, challenge and support while allowing the Managing Director and operational team to lead delivery.
The key deliverable is active, informed and constructive participation in the Board, helping The Prevention Project develop sustainably while maintaining a clear focus on its social purpose preventing gambling harm through education, early intervention and community engagement.
