UMO is recruiting general notetakers and qualified specialist notetakers to support disabled and neurodivergent students at a specialist university in London.
This is flexible, employed zero-hours work starting in September 2026. Support may be delivered online or in person at university campuses across London, depending on the referral, teaching arrangements and each student's access requirements. Hours will vary according to student timetables and demand.
We particularly welcome applicants who can cover several forms of notetaking provision. These include university-funded general notetaking and specialist notetaking for Deaf, hard-of-hearing and visually impaired students. Strong applicants who specialise in one route are also welcome.
What You Will Do
- Attend agreed lectures, seminars and other taught sessions online or in person.
- Capture key ideas, relevant detail, terminology, examples and instructions accurately.
- Produce comprehensive, well-structured digital notes in the student's agreed format.
- Adapt notes to agreed accessibility preferences, using clear headings, spacing and consistent document structure.
- Share completed notes promptly through the agreed secure route.
- Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries and accurate administrative records.
- Communicate promptly with UMO about timetable changes, access issues or cancelled sessions.

About You
For general notetaking, you will need excellent written English, accurate typing, strong listening and summarising skills, confidence producing accessible digital documents, good organisation and professional discretion.
Applicants wishing to deliver Specialist Notetaker - Deaf or hard of hearing (SN-D) or Specialist Notetaker - Vision Impairment (SN-VI) support must hold a qualification or formally assessed equivalent training accepted for that role under the current Department for Education mandatory qualification requirements.
SN-VI practitioners must be able to produce properly structured accessible documents and, where required, interpret and describe visual information presented during teaching.
Specialist practitioners must have access to a suitable laptop and software for producing and securely sharing notes. UMO will verify qualifications and allocate practitioners only to roles for which they are eligible.

These notetaking roles do not include word-for-word transcription, speech-to-text reporting, respeaking, live captioning, specialist transcription or subject tutoring. Notetakers do not complete academic work or replace accessible teaching materials.
