The NPD Technician will help deliver this strategy by supporting new product development, across the Twinings portfolio. A key focus will be on ensuring the smooth and food safe running of the NPD laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the safe and effective running of the NPD laboratory, ensuring clear food safety and health and safety policies are in place, well communicated and followed by all who use the lab.
  • Ensure that all lab equipment is maintained, risk assessed, serviced and calibrated, following clear and agreed schedules.
  • Proactively manage lab ingredient stocks, ensuring that key NPD ingredients are stocked, within shelf life, and stored appropriately.
  • Support NPD Managers and technologists in lab-based activities such as running blend tests on new products, making up new product samples for consumer testing and ingredient sourcing.
  • Supporting Applications Technologists develop new blends to meet sensory and cost requirements on some NPD projects.
  • Supporting set up and running of TwO Sensory Panel Projects.
  • Support project and proactive workstreams, including sample creation and presentation.
  • Act as a role model for Twinings’ Innovation Behaviours.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • 1 year’s experience of working as an NPD Technician or NPD Technologist, preferably within an NPD environment.
  • Relevant laboratory experience including some level of laboratory or kitchen supervisory experience.
  • Experience of working with food or beverage raw materials desirable.
  • Working knowledge of, or qualification in food safety.
  • Most have strong personal drive and desire to progress with the new product development field.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple demands from different stakeholders, challenging back where necessary.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Proactive nature - ability to create new ideas and bring to life.
  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail.
  • Happy to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Curious, questioning and always looking ahead and outside.
