The Opportunity
Stantec’s nuclear team delivers safety case, waste and decommissioning, and environmental consultancy services across the UK’s civil and defence nuclear sectors, as well as internationally. Building on the strong legacy of Hydrock and 3T Safety Consultants, and strengthened by Stantec’s global reach, we support clients across the full nuclear lifecycle, from fuel cycle and new build to operations, decommissioning, and waste management.
Our multidisciplinary teams are embedded within major programmes, including Urenco, Babcock Marine (Devonport Royal Dockyard), and Nuclear Restoration Services at Dounreay. We provide nuclear safety case development, criticality assessment, environmental permitting, and strategic advisory services, underpinned by robust project delivery and strong relationships with our clients and partners.

We are growing our nuclear safety capability and are seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Case Consultant to join our expanding team. You will deliver high-quality, trusted safety advice to some of the sector’s most complex and high-profile clients, including Urenco, Babcock Marine, Nuclear Restorations Services, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, EDF Energy (Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and Generation), Sellafield Ltd and Nuclear Waste Services.

What We Do
Our nuclear capability supports operators and regulators across new build, existing generation, decommissioning, and defence programmes. We specialise in:
- Nuclear safety cases and safety management
- Criticality assessment
- Environmental management and permitting
- Nuclear safety governance
- Radioactive waste management and decommissioning strategy
- Organisational capability development
Through Stantec’s wider global network, we also provide access to specialist expertise in engineering, environmental services, waste packaging, and regulatory compliance.
About The Role
You’ll play a key role in supporting clients across the full nuclear lifecycle, from new build, operations, life extension and decommissioning. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, reviewing and assessing safety cases, safety arguments and supporting documentation across all lifecycle stages
- Producing hazard identification, fault analyses, ALARP assessments and safety justifications
- Providing expert input into nuclear safety management, licensing and regulatory compliance
- Working collaboratively with engineering and project teams to embed safety into design and delivery
- Communicating safety advice to clients, stakeholders and regulators with clarity and credibility
- Leading technical work packages, including radiological safety analysis, report authoring, and workshop facilitation
- Contributing to continuous improvement, technical governance and knowledge sharing
- Supporting client engagement, business development and bid preparation

YOUR IMPACT
As An Experienced Nuclear Safety Case Consultant, You Will Provide Trusted Technical Expertise That Enhances The Safety, Compliance, And Performance Of Nuclear Operations. You Will
- Ensure radiological risks are clearly understood and effectively controlled
- Strengthen the quality, robustness, and clarity of nuclear safety cases
- Provide assurance to regulators and clients on safety and compliance
- Reduce risk through early hazard identification and evidence-based decision making
Enable confident and efficient project delivery by integrating safety considerations at the right time
Your work will directly contribute to safer, more resilient nuclear operations and a sustainable energy future.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in nuclear safety case development within civil or defence environments
- A solid understanding of the UK regulatory framework (e.g. ONR, DNSR)
- A degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related discipline (Master’s desirable)
- Knowledge of safety assessment methodologies (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, fault analysis, PSA or deterministic approaches)
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality safety case inputs and radiological assessments
