Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer
Location: Cumbria – one day a month.
Salary: c£60k plus package.
Clearance: SC required
Eligibility: Sole British citizens only
We’re currently supporting a leading organisation operating within a highly regulated nuclear environment, seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer to join their team.
The role will focus heavily on nuclear safety assessment, safety case development, and regulatory compliance, supporting activities across licensed and authorised sites. You’ll lead safety assessments and safety case preparation, provide technical guidance to engineering teams, and work closely with regulatory bodies and other specialist functions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Leading nuclear safety assessments and safety case development
- Hazard identification and analysis
- Deterministic and probabilistic safety assessment
- Supporting periodic reviews of nuclear safety activities
- Supporting regulatory engagement with ONR and DNSR
- Working closely with engineering and human factors teams
- Providing technical guidance on safety case compliance
- Supporting and developing junior safety engineers

Key Requirements:
- Significant experience in Safety Case development, ideally within the nuclear industry
- Experience within another high-hazard industry may also be considered
- Postgraduate Diploma in Nuclear Science, or equivalent relevant scientific/engineering qualification
- CEng status, or the qualifications and experience required to achieve chartership
- Strong understanding of nuclear safety assessment and regulatory requirements
