Essential eligibility requirements
All applicants must have been residing in the UK for the last five years and have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme. Visa sponsorship is not available. You must hold a BSc or MSc in a relevant STEM subject, security or political science.

Safeguards are measures used to verify that nuclear materials from civil nuclear programmes are used for peaceful purposes, in line with international obligations.
As a Nuclear Safeguards Graduate, you will contribute to work that supports compliance with domestic safeguards regulations and helps the UK meet its international commitments. This is an opportunity to combine technical knowledge, sound judgement and strong communication skills in work with national and international significance.

What you could be doing
Working alongside experienced specialists, you could support:
- Assessing compliance with regulations requiring operators to account for and control qualifying nuclear material.
- The UK’s system for accounting for and controlling nuclear material.
- International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards verification activities in the UK.
- Engagement with nuclear site operators, government bodies and international partners.
- Communicating technical information clearly and contributing to evidence-based judgements.
Who we’re looking for
We welcome applications from graduates with a BSc or MSc in:
- Any relevant STEM subject, including science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- Security or political science.
Alongside your academic background, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Clear communication, including explaining complex information to different audiences.
- The ability to influence and persuade constructively.
- Sound judgement when considering evidence and making decisions.
- Effective teamwork across technical and professional disciplines.
- Self-awareness, including recognising the limits of your knowledge and knowing when to seek guidance.
