Job Description

Ready to help protect the safe operation of one of the UK's nuclear power stations? Are you a Nuclear Engineer, Reactor Physicist, Safety Case Engineer, or technical specialist looking to apply your expertise to real-world challenges that directly impact nuclear safety? At EDF, Success is Personal – and with us, your career journey is yours to shape.

We're recruiting for two specialist opportunities within the Nuclear Safety Team at Hartlepool Power Station:

  • Nuclear Safety Team Member – Reactor Physics
  • Nuclear Safety Team Member – Safety Case Management

Both roles sit within the same Nuclear Safety Group and share a common purpose: ensuring nuclear safety remains our overriding priority.

Each role offers a distinct technical specialism. Our Reactor Physics specialists focus on reactor core behaviour, fuel performance, and operational optimisation, while our Safety Case Management specialists provide expert advice on safety case compliance, hazard assessment, and nuclear safety requirements.

Working within the team, you'll help maintain the station Safety Case and provide authoritative technical advice that supports the safe, secure, and reliable operation of the plant. You'll collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and central technical specialists while supporting the UK's transition towards An Electric Britain.

This is a full-time, site-based opportunity at Hartlepool Power Station. You'll gain hands-on experience in an operational nuclear power station environment, benefit from industry-recognised training, and receive support towards professional registration and chartership while developing expertise across nuclear operations.

What You'll Be Doing

Nuclear Safety Team Member – Reactor Physics

  • Analyse and interpret plant data to support safe and efficient reactor operation
  • Run reactor physics models and codes to assess reactor core behaviour
  • Support reactor core management, fuel management, and fuel performance activities
  • Monitor reactor coolant activity using gamma spectroscopy techniques
  • Provide specialist reactor physics advice that supports plant operation and nuclear safety

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
