Clarity Referrals Ltd. provides an independent specialist veterinary ophthalmology referral service for first-opinion veterinary practices across the South West. The team is led by James Histed, a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and RCVS Recognised Specialist, who brings over 15 years of experience in compassionate, expert eye care for dogs and cats. The clinic focuses on delivering clear communication, thorough diagnostics, and advanced treatments to support referring vets and pet guardians. Clarity Referrals is dedicated to high clinical standards, collaborative working, and outcomes that inspire confidence for both clients and veterinary partners.
Role Description
This is a 32-hour role, on-site Nurse role based in Sherborne, supporting specialist veterinary ophthalmology services. The Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care to dogs and cats, including admitting patients, preparing them for diagnostic procedures and surgery, monitoring anaesthesia, and assisting with ophthalmic examinations and treatments.

Daily Responsibilities

- Medication administration
- Post-operative monitoring
- Maintaining accurate clinical records
- Communicating clearly with pet guardians and referring practices
The Nurse will also help manage clinic workflow, maintain a clean and safe clinical environment, handle ophthalmic equipment, and follow infection control and health and safety protocols. Collaboration with the specialist veterinary team to support smooth case management and a compassionate client experience is central to this role.
Qualifications
- Relevant veterinary nursing qualification (e.g., Registered Veterinary Nurse or equivalent), with eligibility to work in the UK.
- Demonstrated skills in small animal clinical care, including patient handling, medication administration, anaesthesia monitoring, and post-operative care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain clinical information clearly and compassionately to clients and collaborate effectively with veterinary teams.
- Organisational and time-management skills to prioritise workloads, manage multiple cases, and maintain detailed, accurate medical records.
- Commitment to high standards of infection control, health and safety, and safe operation of clinical and ophthalmic equipment.
- Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional in a specialist referral environment, including when dealing with anxious clients and complex cases.
- Experience in ophthalmology or a strong interest in developing specialist eye care nursing skills is highly beneficial.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and training to support advanced veterinary ophthalmology services.
