The Role
Reports to: Director of Governance
Contract: Initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension
Location: Belfast / Hybrid, with responsibility across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
Role Purpose
The Nurse Manager will work in partnership with our existing Nurse Manager to provide professional nursing leadership and clinical governance oversight across our healthcare workforce services in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The role will focus on four key areas: clinical governance, professional assurance, clinical competency and patient safety, ensuring that nurses and HCAs are competent and professionally suitable for the roles in which they are placed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the clinical competence and professional suitability of nurses and HCAs prior to placement, including clinical interviews and competency assessments where required.
- Provide professional assurance regarding registration, qualifications, experience and scope of practice.
- Provide clinical oversight of incidents, complaints, safeguarding matters and professional concerns.
- Identify and escalate clinical risks and recommend appropriate actions to protect patient safety.
- Work closely with Governance, Compliance, Recruitment and Learning & Development to maintain high clinical and professional standards.
- Identify competency and training gaps and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant professional and regulatory requirements across NI and ROI.

Essential Criteria
- Registered Nurse with current professional registration with both the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Nurse Manager or equivalent senior clinical leadership role, including experience within a healthcare recruitment, nursing agency or healthcare staffing environment.
- Significant post-registration clinical nursing experience.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of clinical governance, professional assurance, competency and patient safety.
- Demonstrable experience assessing the clinical competence and professional suitability of nurses and HCAs.
- Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, complaints management or clinical investigations.
- Strong understanding of professional and regulatory requirements governing nursing practice across NI and ROI.
- Strong professional judgement, communication and decision-making skills, with the confidence to challenge and escalate clinical or professional concerns.

Professional Accountability
The Nurse Manager will exercise independent professional judgement on matters of clinical competence, professional standards and patient safety, escalating significant concerns to the Director of Governance.
