Role Overview

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) provides autonomous assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and primary care conditions within the Primary Urgent Care Centre (PUCC). The role involves taking comprehensive patient histories, undertaking clinical examinations, analysing and interpreting clinical information to support decision-making, and developing appropriate management plans. The ANP works closely with colleagues across the Emergency Department and wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and patient-centred care, while also contributing to clinical leadership, education, service development, audit and quality improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and primary care conditions autonomously.
  • Take comprehensive patient histories, undertake clinical examinations and interpret clinical information to support diagnosis and management decisions.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans, including discharge, referral or escalation of care as appropriate.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Emergency Department and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.
  • Perform advanced clinical procedures and interventions within scope of practice.
  • Promote health education, wellbeing and preventative care for patients.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to junior staff, students and trainees.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in teaching, mentorship, audit, research and the development of clinical guidelines and pathways.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure care is delivered in line with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence-based practice.
