Nursery Operations Director

We are recruiting for a Nursery Operations Director to work within a small, well-established Nursery Group. The role is full-time, leading and being the Nominated Individual for 5 nurseries. It is a nursery-facing role with a working-from-home day each week, so we are looking for you to live in or close to Leeds, Sheffield, or Bradford.

Role Overview

The role of Nursery Operations Director will include:

  • Taking full accountability for the operational, financial, and quality performance of five nursery settings.
  • Providing visible, hands-on leadership across the nurseries, working closely with managers and their teams to drive performance.
  • Maximising commercial performance through strong oversight of occupancy, revenue, staffing costs, budgets, and profitability.
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of care and education, with all settings operating to strong regulatory and Ofsted standards.
  • Leading, developing, and holding Nursery Managers accountable, creating a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Acting as the Nominated Individual, providing effective governance and ensuring the organization meets its regulatory and safeguarding responsibilities.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Nursery Operations Director, you will need:

  • Significant senior leadership experience within a reputable nursery group, with responsibility for multiple early years settings.
  • A strong track record of achieving excellent operational, financial, and quality outcomes across a nursery portfolio.
  • Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to understand nursery finances, identify opportunities, and drive improved profitability.
  • A strong understanding of what outstanding early years provision looks like, alongside excellent knowledge of Ofsted, safeguarding, and compliance.
  • An engaging and credible leadership style, with the ability to develop strong Nursery Managers while confidently challenging underperformance.
  • The ability and desire to remain nursery-facing, combining strategic leadership with a genuine understanding of what is happening within individual settings.
  • Worked as a Nursery Manager within your career history and achieved a minimum of Good Ofsted.
