Job Opportunity: Registered Nursing Associate or Associate Practitioner
A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Registered Nursing Associate or an Associate Practitioner to join our well-established Special School Nursing Service.
About the Role
We are looking for an outstanding practitioner with experience of working in a school environment or healthcare role with children and young people. Your role will involve assisting and supporting the qualified nurse to provide health support in one of the six special schools that HHFT provides nursing support to. This is an opportunity to work closely with our truly integrated community service and you will work closely with our Community Children’s Nursing Team, colleagues at Firvale, as well as our existing special schools and the wider child health multi-disciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the qualified school nurse in ensuring plans of care are reviewed and maintained
- Working with children and families to help achieve maximum independence in health and wellbeing
- Working closely with teachers and classroom assistants in meeting care needs
- Responding to emergency needs as they arise

Skills Required
- Nutritional management via gastrostomy
- Epilepsy care
- Medicines management
- Excellence in communication with children with learning disability
- A sound understanding of the safeguarding agenda
- Ability to teach others in practice and be an advocate for the child
Training and Development
We will ensure you receive appropriate training with annual skills updates, and have the opportunity to undertake formal training should you wish. We will offer you clinical supervision, regular appraisal, training and support in achieving your personal development plan as well as peer support from colleagues in similar roles. Child health will ensure excellent development opportunities and a range of expertise for advice and support in your role. Our expectation is that you would have a Nursing Associate qualification or be working towards the qualification.
