Nurture Teacher - St Helens
A teaching role built around the young person, not the timetable.
Are you an experienced teacher who wants to spend more time understanding the individual pupil and less time managing the pressures of a traditional classroom?
SEND Inclusion Support is looking for a Nurture Teacher to support young people in St Helens who are currently unable to access mainstream education due to SEND, SEMH, EBSA, anxiety or other barriers to attendance.
Why this role is different
- You won't be expected to start from scratch.
- We have developed our own bespoke Nurture Curriculum - a semi-formal curriculum designed for pupils who may be unable to access mainstream education. It provides structure and progression while linking into the National Curriculum and formal education pathways where appropriate.
- Although sessions may take place in the pupil's home or community, you are never left to work in isolation.
- Our Nurture Teachers have ongoing support from our wider specialist team, access to curriculum guidance and resources, and regular communication with the team.
- You will also attend our termly Nurture Teacher Days, bringing our teachers together to share ideas, resources and experiences, discuss what's working, reflect on practice and support one another.

What you'll be doing
- Delivering bespoke 1:1 education to pupils with SEND, SEMH and/or EBSA
- Building a trusting relationship before expecting engagement with learning
- Using our Nurture Curriculum alongside your own teaching expertise
- Adapting teaching to the pupil's needs, interests and starting point
- Supporting confidence, emotional wellbeing and re-engagement with education
- Planning and preparing sessions, with planning time paid
- Working alongside families and other professionals where appropriate
- Supporting the pupil towards their next stage, whether that is reintegration, a specialist placement or another suitable education pathway
We're looking for someone who
- Holds QTS or has substantial teaching experience
- Has experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH
- Can confidently adapt teaching for individual needs
- Is patient, calm and consistent
- Understands that relationships are fundamental to successful learning
- Can work independently while being part of a wider professional team
- Is reliable, professional and genuinely committed to improving outcomes for young people
