Secondment Opportunity
This secondment opportunity is open to applicants currently employed by the following Police Forces - Merseyside, GMP, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales, or Cheshire Police only.
About the Role
The Northwest Regional Organised Crime Unit – NWROCU is a collaborative multi-agency covert response tasked with identifying, disrupting, and dismantling organised crime groups who cause the most harm across the Northwest. This includes Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, and North Wales.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Constable or Detective Constable to join an Operational NWROCU Team located in the North (Lancaster), Central (Kirkby), or Southern (Saltney) part of the region.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will drive a proactive response via enhanced partnership working with local forces and partner agencies to prioritise, target, and disrupt cross-border threats and middle market OCG’s.
This approach will allow greater opportunities to support local proactive operations and investigations around key threat areas and impact on regional criminal activity, leaving no safe space for OCG’s to operate within.
Objectives will be to support thematic operations and target OCG’s to relentlessly disrupt and dismantle criminality, whilst building the highest levels of defence and resilience for vulnerable people, businesses, and communities.
The Northwest region has an extensive number of complex OCG’s who are capable of significant criminality with large-scale links to drugs, firearms, and economic crime. Operational Teams will provide a proactive response in order to prioritise, target, and disrupt cross-border threats and middle market OCG’s.

Staff gain valuable operational experience by supporting forces during pre-planned strike days, ensuring teams are fully prepared to deploy operationally and execute warrants. They also identify, review, and develop intelligence opportunities while maintaining responsibility as Officer in Charge (OIC) for their own investigations.
Requirements
PIP 1 – PIP 2 pathway role: Successful applicants will be required to sit the NIE and begin the PIP 2 pathway within two years of taking up the role. Staff will receive full support throughout the attainment of PIP 1 and PIP 2 accreditation. In addition, they are provided with opportunities to progress through the ROCT pathway, further enhancing their investigative skills and career development.
The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the Northwest region to deliver the Government’s serious and organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.

The post is subject to an initial secondment of two years reviewable based on continuous funding and performance.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to MV (Management Vetting) and SC (Security Clearance) prior to taking up post.
