Work Location: Basildon, UK (Onsite 5 days/week)

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Observability Consultant to design, implement, and optimize enterprise observability solutions across complex IT environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in monitoring, logging, tracing, metrics, and Application Performance Monitoring (APM), with hands-on experience using modern observability platforms and cloud technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with business and technical stakeholders to understand observability requirements and define monitoring strategies.
- Design and implement end-to-end observability solutions covering metrics, logs, traces, events, and application performance.
- Develop and maintain observability architectures for cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
- Configure and optimize monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, AppDynamics, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic/ELK, or similar platforms.
- Implement Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and infrastructure monitoring solutions.
- Develop dashboards, alerts, service-level indicators (SLIs), and service-level objectives (SLOs).
- Configure distributed tracing and troubleshoot performance issues across microservices and distributed applications.
- Integrate observability platforms with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and ITSM tools.
- Analyze logs, metrics, and traces to identify performance bottlenecks and conduct root cause analysis.
- Establish proactive monitoring and alerting strategies to reduce incidents and improve system reliability.
- Support Incident, Problem, and Event Management by providing observability data and actionable insights.
- Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, Cloud, Application, and Infrastructure teams to improve system reliability and performance.
- Automate monitoring and observability configurations using Terraform, Ansible, Python, or similar technologies.
- Define and implement observability best practices, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Support the development of SRE practices, including error budgets, SLIs, SLOs, and reliability metrics.
- Prepare technical documentation, architecture diagrams, monitoring standards, and operational runbooks.
- Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and provide technical guidance to development and operations teams.

- Strong experience in Observability, Monitoring, APM, Logging, and Distributed Tracing.
- Hands-on experience with one or more platforms: Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog, AppDynamics, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic Stack/ELK.
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Good understanding of microservices and distributed architectures.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Knowledge of OpenTelemetry (OTel) and modern telemetry standards.
- Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and networking fundamentals.
- Experience with scripting/programming languages such as Python, Shell, or PowerShell.
- Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, SRE, and ITIL practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
