Observability Infrastructure Engineer
Pay: £500 P/D
Location: FULLY REMOTE
Contract: 6 MONTH CONTRACT
We are looking for an experienced Observability Infrastructure Engineer to join a specialist engineering team focused on improving the observability, resilience and monitoring of enterprise cryptographic services.
The role will involve working across Hardwar Security Module (HSM) platforms, monitoring, cybersecurity and cryptographic infrastructure, with a particular focus on developing enhanced monitoring and alerting capabilities using Splunk and SNMP.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an SME for Thales Luna HSMs, while developing working knowledge across Thales payShield and Entrust nShield platforms.
- Support the implementation of a new Splunk-based HSM monitoring and alerting solution.
- Extract and interpret HSM data using technologies such as SNMP.
- Work closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to define requirements and technical solutions.
- Produce technical design, test and operational documentation.
- Identify issues, propose innovative solutions and contribute to continual improvement of cryptographic services.
- Help develop the roadmap for enhanced HSM management, monitoring and observability.
- Support the transition of technical concepts from lab environments into robust operational capabilities.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on expertise with at least one of Thales Luna, Thales payShield or Entrust nShield HSMs, with the ability and motivation to learn the others.
- Strong understanding of HSM monitoring and SNMP.
- Solid knowledge of cryptography, encryption key management and cryptographic modules.
- Experience with Splunk, SNMP, SSH, SSL/TLS, ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, GitHub and advanced Excel/data analysis.
- Good understanding of cybersecurity principles, infrastructure and operational environments.
- Experience with Windows and Linux server administration.
- Understanding of PKI, encryption and cryptographic services.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a technical engineering team and engage confidently with stakeholders.
- Awareness of cybersecurity standards and frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CIS and OWASP.
- Understanding of relevant security, privacy and regulatory requirements within financial services or other highly regulated environments.

Desirable
- Formal qualification or professional experience in Cryptography, Cybersecurity, Information Security or Computer Science.
- Experience with TPMs, PKI or encryption key management.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISA or CISM.
- Experience developing operational models and taking new technology capabilities from proof of concept into production.
