Obsolescence Engineer
Remote working in the U.K
12 Month contract
Up to £53 p/h Outside IR35
We are looking for an experienced Obsolescence Engineer to join a high-profile engineering programme within the defence sector. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in managing component and equipment obsolescence, ensuring long-term supportability and reducing technical risk across complex systems.
Working within an established engineering team, you will investigate obsolescence issues, assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and produce robust technical evidence to support engineering change decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver obsolescence management activities in accordance with the project Obsolescence Management Plan (OMP).
- Review and maintain the Obsolescence Management Plan throughout the project lifecycle.
- Investigate engineering Change Queries (CQIs) and provide timely technical assessments.
- Evaluate obsolescence risks and develop effective mitigation strategies in line with IEC 62402.
- Produce high-quality solution documents to support Change Query Final Answers (CQFAs).
- Work closely with engineering, support, supply chain and project teams to identify suitable replacement components and long-term support solutions.
- Ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete and compliant with project governance requirements.
- Support engineering reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of obsolescence management processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

- Proven experience in obsolescence management, component engineering, ILS, support engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
- Experience working within Defence, Aerospace, Naval or other highly regulated engineering environments.
- Knowledge of IEC 62402 or recognised obsolescence management practices.
- Experience investigating engineering issues and producing technical reports or solution documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to agreed service levels and delivery timescales.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
