The Northern Ireland Civil Service is now recruiting for a variety of roles within their Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services.
Roles include:
- Medical Officers
- Principal Physiotherapists
- Senior Occupational Health Technician
- Senior Occupational Psychologist
- Trainee Occupational Health Nurse
Whether you are established in your profession or at the start of your occupational health career, you will find opportunities to develop, learn, and make a real difference within our teams.
You will be supporting one of the most diverse workforces in Northern Ireland, and you could be supporting prison officers, veterinary inspectors, forest rangers, environmental scientists, road engineers, or frontline operational staff, on any given day.
Eligibility Criteria
Medical Officer:
- Currently hold, or be entitled to hold, full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practice medicine in the UK
- Have the equivalent of at least 3 years’ post full registration clinical experience, gained within the last 7 years
- Have or be prepared to gain the Diploma in Occupational Medicine through the Faculty of Occupational Medicine within 3 years of appointment to post

Principal Physiotherapist:
- Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy Studies
- Evidence of successful completion of a minimum of two MSc Level accredited post-graduate modules, or equivalent, specific to the field of MSK and/or Occupational Health
- Seven years’ postgraduate experience to include a minimum of five years’ experience at specialist grade or above within the area of musculoskeletal outpatients, to include experience in the management of musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist.
- Portfolio of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) relevant to the management of patients with musculoskeletal disorders and/or the occupational health field that would be judged by the panel to meet the specification of this post.
Senior Occupational Health Technician
- Have completed an approved occupational health technicians’ course
- Have a minimum of one year’s experience in an occupational health or care setting with experience of managing staff as part of the role

Senior Occupational Psychologist
- MSc Occupational Psychology (or equivalent titled course) approved as Stage 1 by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
- Current Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society.
- British Psychological Society Qualification in Occupational Psychology Stage 2 Or Have completed Part 1 and Part 2 of a professional doctorate in occupational psychology, which confers Chartered Member with the BPS and Registered Occupational Psychologist with the HCPC.
- Full Membership of the Division of Occupational Psychology, British Psychological Society
- Be a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Trainee Occupational Health Nurse
- Be a registered nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the live NMC Register (UK)
- Have a minimum of 3 years post registration nursing experience.
