Occupational Health Advisor
Howdens is looking for an experienced Occupational Health Advisor to join our team at our Raunds site. This is an exciting opportunity to provide a proactive, professional and confidential occupational health service within a busy operational environment.
Working closely with colleagues across HR, Safety, Health and Environment, and site operations, you will provide trusted advice and practical support that helps us protect employee wellbeing, manage workplace health risks and promote best practice. You will need to be comfortable working independently, building strong relationships and knowing when issues should be escalated.
Location | Raunds, Northamptonshire
Work Pattern | 30 flexible hours per week, Monday to Friday, with working patterns to suit you.

What will you be doing as an OH Advisor?
Reporting to the Lead Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, you will provide expert occupational health and hygiene advice while delivering a responsive and confidential service to employees and managers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering occupational health clinics and confidential one-to-one employee consultations.
- Supporting the management of occupational health cases, including rehabilitation and return-to-work programmes.
- Preparing case information and following up recommendations made by the Occupational Health Physician or Lead Occupational Health Nurse Advisor.
- Supporting employee health surveillance and screening programmes, including coordinating appointments and providing follow-up support.
- Identifying emerging health trends, workplace risks and areas of concern, escalating these appropriately.
- Maintaining accurate, secure and confidential medical records.
- Providing managers, HR and SHE colleagues with appropriate occupational health advice and guidance.
- Supporting employee health education, wellbeing activities and occupational health training.
- Advising operational teams during workplace changes, installations or modifications, including considerations relating to ergonomics and workplace substances.
- Producing meaningful reports and management information to help identify demand, trends and areas requiring further support.
- Maintaining a visible and approachable occupational health presence across the Raunds site.

What do you need to qualify as an OH Advisor?
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A recognised Occupational Health qualification.
- Previous occupational health experience within a similar role or working environment.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Strong case-management, planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload.
- Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work effectively with colleagues and managers at all levels.
- The ability to build trusted working relationships while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- The confidence to challenge existing practices constructively and impartially.
- The ability to work independently, use your initiative and recognise when escalation is required.
- A professional, patient and diligent approach, with a commitment to delivering an excellent service.
- Experience of occupational hygiene monitoring techniques, health surveillance, operational environments or employee training would be advantageous.
