Your Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to be an active part of the board at medical appeal hearings in accordance with the requirements of the applicable Pensions and Injury Benefit Regulations. We are seeking an experienced professional with strong leadership skills and a meticulous approach to procedural order to oversee police and fire medical appeal hearings, ensuring fair and impartial outcomes in line with Pensions and Injury Benefit Regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
As Chairperson, you will:
- Conduct medical appeal hearings in accordance with the applicable regulations.
- Ensure all information and evidence provided by the appellant and authority is thoroughly considered.
- Oversee the board's review of medical evidence, including findings from medical examinations conducted during the hearing.
- Guide the board in reaching a fair and reasoned decision.
- Ensure the board’s decision is not disclosed on the day of the hearing.
- Draft, review, and finalise the board report, ensuring it includes a clear decision and rationale.
- Share the finalised board report with all parties within 15 working days of the hearing (unless additional medical evidence is required).
- Provide timely guidance to the administrative team to support hearing arrangements, appeal management, and report production.

What We’re Looking For:
- Has exceptional organisational and leadership skills.
- GMC Registered.
- Can ensure procedural fairness and impartiality throughout the hearing process.
- Possesses strong analytical abilities to evaluate complex medical and procedural information.
- Is an effective communicator, capable of producing clear and detailed reports.
- Is able to work collaboratively with board members and administrative teams.

Location:
Homebased with UK travel to hearings.
Hours:
We are able to offer full or part time hours (minimum 3 days a week).
