About the Role

The Occupational Health & Travel Nurse Practitioner assumes responsibility for the co-ordination, provision and establishment of quality, efficient care to clients and their employees, that leads to the promotion, protection and restoration of the persons health within a safe working environment and during cross border travel.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide up to date, accurate information on the health and safety aspects of specific destinations, to travellers to ensure the traveller remains healthy during his travels and returns home healthy by applying specific interventions.
• Utilise only controlled, current documentation
• Ensure that quality standards are met by systematic monitoring and evaluation as per the Quality Management System
• Ensure compliance to the OSH Act No: 85 of 1993, MHS Act No: 1996, Nursing Act 33: 2005, Medicines Related Substances Act 101:1965 and the related regulations, and company Standard operation policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain accurate up to date medical records, to track employee health/illness and provide the company with data
• Produce monthly report inclusive of recommendations
• Organise the clinic functions so as to ensure that the relationship between people, work and resources are maximised to achieve set, agreed objectives.
• Prevent loss of stock and equipment by proper control, inventory keeping and execution of a maintenance plan
• Ordering of vaccines and medical stock on Orderwise
• Ensure compliance with Netcare preferred providers
• Checking of stock against invoice, once received from distributors
• Compile and issue weekly MRO sheet to finance for prompt payment of providers
• Meet customer needs effectively and build productive customer relationships by taking responsibility for customer satisfaction
• Inform operations manager promptly of any administrative and client related problems. And compile a corrective action plan, implement and track outcomes.
• Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of work spaces to safeguard employee safety and prevent workplace injuries as per core standard checklist.
• Implementation of emergency management plan
• Implementation and management of health and safety standards as per health safety file.
• Systematically research trends and facts, by collating and analysing data in order to reach new conclusions and develop interventions.
• Assist towards the marketing of the travel clinic.
• Prevent medical errors and continuously improve healthcare quality
• Provide patient care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs and values
• Ensure procedures are explained to the patient
• Ensure accurate recording of patient care
• Identify chronic disease cases and refer appropriately
• Ensure confidentiality of data at all times
• Ensure calibration of equipment is in accordance with standards and protocols
• Perform prompt and effective medical assistance to employees in acute and chronic situations
• Provide health education to clients during every visit
• Ensure all waste documentation is recorded on HCRW reconciliation and submitted monthly
• Ensure effective case management to ensure optimum value and desirable outcomes for all identified cases
• Maintain good relationship with business client and service providers
• Meet customer needs effectively and build productive customer relationships by taking responsibility for customer satisfaction
