Occupational Therapist Assessor / Functional Specialist – Northern Ireland

Job Description

As an Occupational Therapist Assessor / Functional Specialist, you’ll leverage your clinical expertise in a new way:

  • Conduct in-person, video, or telephone assessments with benefits claimants
  • Craft detailed, evidence-based reports to inform key clinical decisions
  • Operate in a structured, flexible, and supportive working model

What We Offer

  • Hybrid working (2 days remote, up to 3 days at a clinic)
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (occasional 8:00 PM finishes may arise)
  • No night or weekend shifts

Compensation

  • Starting salary: £39,500 (rising to £40,500 post-DfC approval)
  • 10% bonus scheme, based on performance & quality

Role Responsibilities

Key Tasks

  • Conduct structured assessments to evaluate:
    • How health conditions impact daily functioning or work ability
  • Produce in-depth, evidence-based reports (3,000–4,000 words) for the Northern Ireland Department for Communities (DfC)
  • Deliver 2 to 5 assessments/day (face-to-face, phone, or video)
  • Analyse clinical evidence, interview candidates, and write recommendations
  • Continuously update expertise on conditions affecting work and daily life

Requirements

What Qualifications & Skills You’ll Bring

Professional

  • HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a valid Practitioner Identifier Number (PIN), no current restrictions
  • Minimum 1 year of post-registration experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; adaptable to new remote systems

Logistical

  • Valid driving licence (for clinic-based work) or self-transport arrangements

  • Must have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
