Job Description
As an Occupational Therapist Assessor / Functional Specialist at Capita HAAS (Health Assessment Advisory Service), you’ll apply your clinical expertise and analytical skills in a new way:
- Meet with benefits claimants in person or via video link
- Write in-depth reports
- Make important clinical recommendations
- Enjoy a more structured and flexible way of working
What We Offer
- Excellent training and ongoing support in a values-driven team, where wellbeing is prioritised
- Flexible hours: Full or part-time (minimum 3 days per week)
- Consistent working hours: Monday to Friday, 8AM–5PM (with occasionally 8PM finishes as needed)
- No weekend or nightshift requirements
- Starting salary: £39,500, rising to £40,500 after DWP approval
- 10% Salary Bonus Scheme (quality- and performance-based)
- Hybrid working: Up to 3 days per week working from home/clinic

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to evaluate how conditions impact daily living
- Observe, listen, and gather sensitive information with empathy
- Analyse clinical evidence and supporting documentation
- Produce detailed written reports (3,000–4,000 words)
- Provide clear clinical justification supporting DWP decisions
- Continuously develop knowledge of various health conditions
- Complete up to 3 assessments/day (face-to-face, video call, or telephone)
Qualifications & Requirements
About You
✔ HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with:
- Valid PIN
- No current restrictions ✔ Minimum 1 year of post-registration experience ✔ Exceptional communication & interpersonal skills ✔ Ability to draft high-quality, accurate, and evidence-based reports efficiently ✔ Strong analytical skills to research and assess within structured deadlines ✔ Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptability to learn new systems while working remotely ✔ Cardiff-based employees only will require dynamic access ✔ Driving licence or reliable transport (for clinic visits)

Security & Compliance
This role involves:
- Government baseline personnel vetting (including enhanced criminal checks—spent and unspent convictions will be assessed).
- Responsibility under Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).
