We are St Andrew’s a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.
St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 125 bedded secure adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
We are currently looking for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant. You will work with an OT team to undertake assessments and treatment within a forensic psychiatric setting.
Working alongside Occupational Therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in delivering meaningful, person-centred therapeutic interventions.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Supporting the delivery of individual and group occupational therapy activities.
- Helping patients develop practical, social and interpersonal skills.
- Encouraging participation in meaningful activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and independence.
- Supporting patients to identify their interests, strengths and personal goals.
- Building positive, professional and therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Assisting with assessments and providing feedback to the Occupational Therapist and wider MDT.
- Supporting patients to engage in activities both within the hospital and, where appropriate, in the wider community.
- Promoting recovery-focused and trauma-informed care.
- Maintaining accurate and timely patient records.
- Working collaboratively with nursing staff, therapists and other professionals to provide consistent, high-quality care.
- Promoting dignity, choice, inclusion and respect in everything you do.

Previous experience within mental health, healthcare, social care or a secure environment would be beneficial, although we are also keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate the right values, attitude and transferable skills
