Part-Time Office Accountant / Credit Controller Required As Soon As Possible

Offices in Baldock and Aston (Near Stevenage)

Part-Time, Permanent Position – Salary £36,000 per annum pro rata

Established in 2006, Green Shield Environmental is an independent and impartial asbestos consultancy providing a comprehensive range of asbestos solutions, including surveys, sampling, testing, training, consultancy and assistance on removal projects. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accounts / Credit Control specialist with a commitment to producing high standards of work to join our expanding company, where we value our people.

About the Role

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Part-Time Office Accountant / Credit Controller to join our small consultancy.

This is a standalone position, and you will be responsible for overseeing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and managing all aspects of credit control, while providing clear and actionable financial information to support the business.

The role is offered on a part-time, permanent basis, with a full-time equivalent salary of £36,000 per annum, pro rata according to the agreed working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reconciliations of accounts, bank statements and credit card transactions to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, handling payments and tracking outstanding balances.
  • Manage credit control, including proactively following up outstanding accounts and maintaining accurate debtor records.
  • Assist with payroll processing and employee expense reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyse financial performance, including revenue, costs and profitability, and provide reports to support management decision-making.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Record and send CIS information and statements to the company accountants on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and management reports, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software.
  • Previous experience in Credit Control.
  • AAT qualified.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting function.

Public transport to our offices is limited; therefore, having your own transport would be beneficial.
