Hiring Unit: Department of Geography
Position Summary:
- Respond to enquiries and to assist users (students, research associates and assistants and faculty) of the Geographic Information Centre (GIC) by referring them to the appropriate resources whenever required, especially support in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote Sensing (RS) software
- Assist in preparing short introductory workshops in GIS and RS
- Assist in the organization and carrying out of the GIS Day, and other events by the GIC
- Assist in GIS and RS projects assigned by the GIC Director
- Ensure the GIC is clean and welcoming (e.g. front desk area, computer areas, printing areas, computer screens and desks)
- Assist the fire marshal in case of an emergency evacuation of the area
- Enforce GIC policies (e.g. the "No food or drinks" policy in the computer area, quiet noise levels or public health compliance)
- Circulate the GIC at 60 minutes' intervals and record area usage
- Carry out any other related duties assigned by the GIC Director and coordinators

Subject to McGill policy all duties are to be performed in person in the GIC
Experience and Education
- Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), preferred students with a GIS minor or equivalent
- Knowledge of Remote Sensing (RS)
- Proficiency in the software packages ArcGIS Pro and ENVI
- Good communication skills
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Knowledge of R, Python and/or SQL, and the use of LLM prompts

Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.

Hourly Salary: (AMUSE B) $16.85
Estimated Number of Work Hours per Week: 15 (Part time)
