Office Manager

Palmer & Co
Glasgow (Office-based)
£32,000 - £38,000 per annum

Have you led an office team and kept a busy business running smoothly behind the scenes? Are you the person a Managing Director relies on to turn priorities into action? Are you looking for an Office Manager role where you can lead, improve and make a real impact in a growing business? This role could be for you.

Who are Palmer & Co

We have been operating in Scotland since 1932, and the business looks nothing like it did when it started. Today we run an access platform fleet that includes truck-mounted platforms up to 70 metres, rope access teams, and contracts that range from commercial window cleaning PPM programmes to inspections and other work at height maintenance tasks. We are family-run, we are growing, and the last 18 months have seen some of the most significant capital investment in our history.

The Role

The Lead

This is a leadership role first. You will be the Managing Director's right hand for the running of the office and the people in it - turning priorities into clear plans, meeting weekly to agree what matters, and giving an honest monthly view of what is working, what is not and what needs a decision. You will line manage the Business Support Administrators, set clear standards, and deal with performance, attendance and conduct promptly and fairly. You will own onboarding and offboarding end to end, HR admin and employee records, and act as the named administrator for Big Change and Bright HR. Compliance sits with you too - GDPR, Right to Work checks, audits and business continuity.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Opportunity

You will attend Senior Leadership Team meetings and represent the office function in decisions that shape the business. As Palmer & Co grows, you will drive better processes, systems and employee experience, and build a team that scales with us. If you want real influence rather than just a job title, the platform is here.

What You Need

  • Proven Line Management: You have managed a team before - objective setting, one-to-ones, performance reviews, and handling absence, conduct or capability issues with confidence. You hold people to account and develop them at the same time.
  • Managing upwards: You keep the MD informed, bring solutions rather than problems, and give candid advice. When you agree to deliver something, it gets delivered.
  • People and Compliance Know-How: Onboarding, HR administration, payroll data, employee records, GDPR and Right to Work checks. You know where the risks sit and keep the business on the right side of them.
  • Systems Confidence: You are comfortable owning systems, not just using them. Experience of Big Change or Bright HR is a bonus. If you can bring in better tools and help others, use them, all the better.
  • Proactivity Under Pressure: This business moves quickly. You spot problems early, take ownership, and keep the team focused and the office running smoothly when demands stack up.
  • Communication That Works: Clear, professional and approachable with the team, suppliers and clients, and confident presenting to the Senior Leadership Team.
