The Role
We are looking for an Office Manager to play a pivotal role in the effective delivery of support services across the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). Reporting to the Head of Specialist Capabilities, you will lead and manage a multi-functional team responsible for delivering a diverse range of business support activities that enable operational policing to function effectively and efficiently.
This is a varied and dynamic leadership role with responsibility for performance, finance, infrastructure, governance, and organisational support functions. You will work closely with the Senior Management Team, operational leads, and partner organisations to ensure that support services meet the demands of a complex regional policing environment.
The successful candidate will oversee areas including business support, health and safety, facilities, fleet management, information governance, business continuity, and organisational compliance. The role requires a proactive and innovative individual who can build strong relationships, improve processes, and lead change across the unit.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the NEROCU Support Services Team, creating a positive, high-performing culture that delivers excellent service and support across the organisation.
- Oversee a range of business support functions, ensuring services, resources, and facilities are delivered efficiently to meet operational needs.
- Manage team performance and workloads, prioritising activity, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring high standards of customer service and delivery.
- Build strong relationships with managers, staff, and partner organisations, acting as a key point of contact to resolve issues and drive service improvements.
- Drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement, leading audits, maintaining business systems, and ensuring policies, procedures, and data meet organisational and legislative requirements.
- Provide leadership on governance, health and safety, and business management, producing reports and performance information, coordinating inspections and audits, and ensuring the organisation remains compliant, efficient, and well supported.
- Work collaboratively across NEROCU and partner agencies, identifying opportunities to enhance services, improve ways of working, and deliver value for money.
What You’ll Bring
We're looking for an experienced and motivated leader who can inspire and develop others, deliver high-quality services, and drive continuous improvement. You'll be comfortable leading teams and services within a large, complex organisation, building strong relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
