ROLE PURPOSE
As an Office of the CFO Director, you will play a key leadership role within AAB's Operational Finance team, leading the delivery of strategic finance solutions to ambitious, growth-focused businesses.
Working closely with business owners, Boards, private equity-backed organisations, and senior leadership teams, you will provide high-quality outsourced CFO and finance leadership services, helping clients improve financial performance, strengthen governance, navigate change, and achieve their strategic ambitions.
Alongside delivering exceptional client outcomes, you will play an instrumental role in growing the Office of the CFO proposition, developing high-performing teams, and contributing to the strategic direction of the service line across Scotland, London, and the wider UK.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Client Leadership
- Lead a portfolio of strategic clients, acting as a trusted adviser to business owners, Boards, and executive leadership teams.
- Deliver high-quality outsourced CFO services, providing commercial and strategic financial leadership.
- Oversee the delivery of management accounts, statutory reporting, and wider finance function support, ensuring exceptional quality and client satisfaction.
- Provide strategic financial insight, forecasting, and performance analysis to support key business decisions.
- Lead complex client engagements including finance transformation, systems implementation, financial remediation, governance reviews, process improvement, and operational change.
- Support clients through acquisitions, disposals, integrations, fundraising, rapid growth, restructuring, and business transformation.
- Ensure all client engagements are delivered efficiently, commercially, and within agreed deadlines.
- Build long-term trusted adviser relationships with clients, understanding their strategic priorities and identifying opportunities to add value.
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Managers and Senior Managers, supporting succession planning and future leadership capability.
- Determine resource requirements across client engagements, ensuring the team has the appropriate skills and expertise to deliver an exceptional client experience.
- Play a key role in shaping the strategic direction and continued growth of the Office of the CFO service line.
- Contribute to departmental planning, operational excellence, and achievement of financial and commercial objectives.
- Champion innovation, technology adoption, and continuous improvement across service delivery.
Business Development
- Drive business development activity by building relationships across your professional network and identifying opportunities to grow the Office of the CFO service offering.
- Lead proposals, pitches, and client presentations, converting opportunities into long-term client relationships.
- Develop strong relationships with private equity firms, banks, investors, lawyers, and other professional intermediaries.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Audit, Tax, Corporate Finance, Payroll, People Consultancy, and Wealth Management to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Identify opportunities to broaden AAB's services within existing client relationships.
- Support the continued growth of the Office of the CFO proposition across Glasgow, London, and the wider UK.

Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Partners, Directors, and colleagues across the wider firm to deliver exceptional client outcomes.

- Represent AAB externally through networking, thought leadership, and professional events, enhancing the firm's profile within the market.
Experience & Qualifications
- ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Significant post-qualified experience gained within practice, industry, or a combination of both.
- Demonstrable experience providing strategic finance leadership and acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge across UK GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting requirements.
- Proven experience leading finance transformation, operational improvement, and complex advisory projects.
- Experience managing a substantial client portfolio with responsibility for commercial performance and client satisfaction.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
- Experience leading, developing, and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of finance technology, cloud accounting platforms, and digital finance solutions.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative leadership style and passion for delivering exceptional client service.
