The Team
The Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire Team (one of 12 geographic teams) is one of the most varied and exciting teams within Natural England. Sweeping down from the uplands of the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and the South Pennines it encompasses the urban and industrial areas of South and West Yorkshire and the agricultural lowlands of the East Riding before reaching the beautiful Yorkshire Coast, the Humber Estuary (one of the busiest ports in the country) and the sea beyond.

The purpose of this role is to work with a range of partners including landowners/managers, statutory undertakers, and other agencies to drive forward local nature recovery. We work through stakeholder engagement and uses of a range of tools such as technical advice, grant schemes and regulatory mechanisms to secure environmental improvements.
Role - Summary
We are looking for motivated individuals to support the delivery of some of our key work areas. This will include Catchment Sensitive Farming, Land Management (Agri-Env and PS casework) and Sustainable Development.
We are seeking individuals with a range of knowledge, skills and experience covering farm advice, agricultural practices, habitat & species management and land use planning as well as project and delivery management/support. The exact role will depend on the skills/interest of the applicant and the needs of the team.
You need to be a team player, able to work with a range of staff in local and national teams as well as external partners and stakeholders, and have the ability to operate as an individual. You will support projects and cultivate effective working relationships that can make a real difference in the natural environment.

The roles are temporary and will be initially for a maximum of 6 months.
Role - Key Tasks
- Monitor Team mailboxes, respond to queries and allocate work to others in the Area Team
- Provide support to the Senior Officers in the team who coordinate and report on our team’s delivery
- Provide advice and respond to low risk casework
- Support the provision of advice and responses to higher risk casework
- Facilitate and support others to help deliver nature recovery
Role - Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally, with a wide range of customers.
- Ability to record correspondence correctly and respond within statutory deadlines, ensuring responses are logged and tracked.
- Ability to confidently and competently use Microsoft applications and NE systems
- Ability to undertake data analysis and present your findings to others
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Ability to triage requests and escalate potential risks/issues
- An understanding of one or more of our key work areas is desirable but not required (full training will be provided)
Role - Location
The role will be based at our York or Leeds offices. York is preferred due to the Leeds office moving.
