Salary: £73,335 – £77,003 + offshore supplement of up to £10,000
Location: Aberdeen / Hybrid – other UK locations available
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
We are seeking an experienced Offshore EC&I Engineer with strong expertise in control & instrumentation, functional safety and OT/industrial cyber security to join a specialist technical and regulatory team.
This is a senior technical role focused on the assessment and management of major hazard risks within the offshore oil & gas / petrochemical sector. You will provide expert technical input across safety cases, inspections, investigations and safety-critical systems.
Essential Experience
Applicants must have substantial experience in:
- Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) engineering within an offshore oil & gas, petrochemical or other major-hazard environment.
- OT / industrial cyber security, including knowledge of relevant principles, standards and the protection of safety-critical control systems.
- Functional safety, including practical experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and IEC 61511.
- Safety case assessment and/or development, including reviewing technical demonstrations of major accident hazard controls.
- HAZOP / hazard identification and risk assessment within major-hazard industries.
- Assessing the adequacy of safety-critical systems and major accident hazard controls.
- Applying engineering judgement to identify technical weaknesses, assess risk and recommend improvements.

You will ideally have experience with process control, ESD, Fire & Gas systems, hazardous area/Ex equipment and Functional Safety Management.
Relevant qualifications or professional certifications in functional safety and/or cyber security are essential, alongside a degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Control or a closely related engineering discipline. Ideally you would be Chartered or working towards Chartered status.
The role
You Will
- Assess safety cases and major hazard control measures.
- Undertake onshore and offshore technical inspections.
- Investigate incidents and provide specialist technical advice.
- Assess EC&I, functional safety and OT cyber security arrangements.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and, where required, expert evidence.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams, operators, technical authorities and other stakeholders.
- Provide authoritative advice on engineering standards, legislation and good practice.

The role involves regular offshore travel, typically 2–3 nights offshore approximately 6–8 times per year, with occasional short-notice travel.
