Senior Design Engineer
About the Role
Sigmar Recruitment is working with a leading engineering and offsite manufacturing organisation to recruit a Senior Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical design professional to play a key role in delivering innovative modular and offsite solutions across a range of high-profile residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments. You'll have the opportunity to work on projects from concept through to fabrication and installation, while supporting and mentoring junior engineers within a collaborative design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documentation and employer requirements to develop practical design solutions.
- Produce schematics, calculations, specifications, and plant schedules.
- Support the development of fabrication-ready drawings and offsite manufacturing solutions.
- Coordinate building services within modular plant areas, ensuring buildability and efficient installation.
- Work closely with BIM and design teams to deliver accurate project information.
- Assist with material selection, specification compliance, and fabrication standards.
- Manage design responsibilities independently across multiple projects.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and BIM team members.
- Conduct occasional site surveys and installation reviews.

About You
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a time-served pipefitting background with relevant design experience.
- 3 to 5 years' experience in a consultancy, contractor design environment, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services design and coordination.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within the commercial M&E sector.
- Knowledge of offsite manufacturing, modular construction, or prefabricated MEP solutions.
- Exposure to fabrication-focused design and construction methodologies.
