Company Description
Voltage Solutions Ltd is a leading provider of skilled labour and technical support to the Overhead Line (OHL) industry. We work across all aspects of OHL projects, including wiring, platform works, utility gangs, steelwork erection, diversion works, logistics and site management, covering 400kV, 275kV and 132kV networks.
In addition to our on-site services, we support Tier 1 contractors with expert advice, method statements, risk assessments and specialist work instructions. We also deliver mandatory and specialist OHL training, ensuring the highest standards of competence, safety and professionalism across the industry.
Role Description
We are currently seeking an experienced OHL Trainer to join our team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and developing the competence of our workforce, ensuring all linesmen and site personnel remain suitably trained, assessed and competent to undertake their roles safely and effectively.
This is a UK-wide role, requiring regular travel to our various projects and sites to deliver training and assessments. The role will involve a mixture of practical training, competency assessments, record keeping and supporting the continued development of our training systems.
The successful candidate must have substantial practical experience within the Overhead Line industry and a strong understanding of the methods, equipment and risks associated with OHL construction, maintenance and stringing activities.

- Deliver mandatory and specialist OHL training to Voltage Solutions personnel across various UK projects.
- Ensure all employee training and competency requirements are kept up to date.
- Deliver practical and classroom-based training as required.
- Undertake linesmen competency assessments and support the formal sign-off of personnel.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date competency profiles for all linesmen and relevant site personnel.
- Produce, issue and maintain training certificates and training records.
- Maintain and regularly review training materials, presentations, assessments and practical training equipment.
- Deliver mandatory training including, where appropriately qualified: SHEA Power, Tower Rescue, First Aid, Manual Handling, Slinger/ Signaller, PVM etc
- Deliver training on specific OHL working methods and procedures where competent to do so.
- Support the delivery of plant-related training where appropriate. Accredited plant training can be supported by external training providers.
- Carry out and maintain records of harness and tower rescue equipment inspections and ensure requirements are kept up to date.
- Maintain a strong focus on health and safety throughout all training and assessment activities.
- Work with site management and supervisors to identify training needs and ensure personnel are appropriately competent for the work they undertake.
- Support the development of new and improved training methods, materials and assessment processes.
- Keep up to date with relevant industry requirements, training standards and best practice.
- Travel throughout the UK to support projects and deliver training as required.

Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience working as an OHL Trainer, Assessor or Competence Assessor.
- Significant practical experience working within the Overhead Line industry.
- Strong understanding of OHL construction, maintenance, wiring, erection and associated working methods.
- Appropriate recognised Trainer/Assessor qualifications for the training being delivered.
- Experience delivering practical and classroom-based training.
- Experience carrying out competency assessments and signing off personnel.
- Good understanding of OHL health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both experienced linesmen and less experienced personnel.
