OMB Manager (Advisory)
Cardiff
£55,000-£75,000
A successful independent firm is looking for an OMB Manager to take ownership of a varied owner-managed business portfolio and build genuinely advisory relationships with clients, not just deliver compliance.
The firm is one of the strongest performers in its region, highly profitable and investing heavily in its people. This role sits at the heart of that growth, working closely with Directors and Partners on a portfolio of entrepreneurial start-ups and growing owner-managed businesses.
Where you'll add value
- Managing a portfolio of OMB clients, acting as their day-to-day trusted adviser
- Getting involved in the advisory side, not just accounts and compliance, helping clients with the questions that actually keep them up at night
- Building strong personal relationships through regular client contact
- Spotting opportunities for additional work and flagging them to the wider team
- Reviewing work prepared by juniors and supporting their development
- Working closely with Directors and Partners on more complex assignments, with real exposure to how those decisions get made

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
