On-Site Electrician Opportunity at HMP Berwyn

Location: 139 Bridge Rd, Wrexham LL13 9QE

Hours: 39 hours per week (Mon-Fri 7:30am - 16:30pm)
Shift Pattern: 1 in 5 weekends with a 15% shift allowance


About the Role

At Amey, we support His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing safe, clean, and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Electrician plays a crucial role in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with planned preventative maintenance
  • A Level 3 qualification (Level 2 candidates will also be considered)

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
  • Testing and inspecting electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently
  • Performing planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnosing/replacing failed domestic electrical components
  • Actively fault finding and problem-solving on domestic electrical systems
  • Undertaking electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations
  • Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services, and overseeing the BMS System
  • Supporting zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals, and handling additional tasks as directed by your line manager

Requirements:

  • Appropriate technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above)
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution, installation, and testing
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative
  • Capable of working at heights

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
