Electrician – HMP Durham

Durham, DH1 3HU

£30,866 – £36,135 + 15% shift allowance + call-out pay

39 hours per week

Hours

  • Mon–Thurs: 07:30 – 16:00
  • Fri: 07:30 – 15:30
  • 1 in 3 weekends (08:00 – 16:00, 15% uplift)
  • Call-out rota (paid separately)

The Role

We’re looking for a qualified Electrician to join the facilities team at HMP Durham—a secure site where your work genuinely matters.

You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Planned and reactive electrical maintenance
  • Fault finding and repairs across the site
  • Small works and like-for-like replacements
  • Testing and inspection to BS7671 standards
  • Keeping systems safe, compliant and operational

What You’ll Need

  • Relevant Level 2 Electrical qualification
  • 18th Edition (or 17th with willingness to upgrade)
  • Experience in maintenance or facilities
  • Strong understanding of health & safety
  • Able to work independently and problem solve
