The Apprentice Professional Coach (APC)
The Apprentice Professional Coach (APC) is a key role in our central University Apprenticeships team and is responsible for the interview, progress, and development of apprentices on their apprenticeship programme. APC will work collaboratively with academic teams and central services and employers to successfully support an allocated caseload of apprentices on programme. You will be a single point of contact to cover the apprentice journey from interview to completion, including reporting and tripartite reviews and gateway/EPA preparation. This support will ensure all activity complies with University policy, professional bodies where relevant, Ofsted framework, and ESFA funding rules. You will be familiar with Higher & Degree Apprenticeships and specifically the relevant occupational standard in order to support apprentices in a work-based setting to achieve both on and off the job training.
Responsibilities
- Undertake initial assessments and interview to confirm suitability of apprentice for the programme and ensure all onboarding requirements are completed fully and accurately
- Plan and carry out regular (every 8-12 weeks) tripartite progress reviews with the apprentice and their line manager/mentor, including goal setting, learning progress (including additional support) within clear documentation.
- Track 20% off the job training and recording, progress reviews, and attendance rates per apprentice and support the apprentice to manage completion.
- Prepare and support the End Point Assessment Gateway reviews with apprentices and the employer to ensure apprentice readiness to proceed to EPA.
- Guide apprentices for the development of study and other identified skills and other support mechanisms as might be required.
- Support apprentices in achieving the apprenticeship outcomes and applying their knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSB) in the workplace.

- An undergraduate qualification or equivalent qualification level is desirable.
- Teaching qualification or equivalent would be desirable
- Experience of supporting apprentices or teaching/tutorial support in HE/FE or an independent provider
- Strong team player, able to work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and external
- Excellent understanding of Higher & Degree Apprenticeships in the Higher Education Sector (including the funding bodies and regulation)
- Knowledge of relevant apprenticeship occupational standards, delivery, and achievement in a higher education and work-based setting.
- Committed to the apprenticeship experience and success.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Good communication and able to report in a clear and timely manner.
- IT and systems literate and quick to adapt to new systems.
- Strong customer focus with a commitment to the provision of a high-quality, professional service – an excellent listener/interpreter providing solutions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize own workload.
- Experience of apprenticeship management systems is desirable.
