Online Functional Skills English Tutor
We are currently looking for a freelance Online Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver our upcoming Level 2 Functional Skills English course. Although Nevara Training is based in London, the role is fully remote.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Teaching Qualification: Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET/PTTLS), CET, DET, PGCE, Cert Ed, or QTS.
- Subject Qualification: Minimum Level 2/3 qualification in English, or a related degree (e.g., English, Humanities, or Education).
- Teaching Experience: Proven track record of delivering Functional Skills English (Levels 1 and 2) to youth, adult learners, or apprentices.
- Curriculum Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the Functional Skills English criteria, covering Reading, Writing, and Speaking, Listening & Communicating (SLC).
- Assessment & Planning: Experience conducting initial assessments, diagnostic testing, and setting tailored Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).

Knowledge & Technical Skills
- Awarding Bodies: Familiarity with major awarding body standards (e.g., City & Guilds, Pearson Edexcel, NCFE, Highfield).
- Delivery Platforms: Competency in delivering interactive sessions via digital learning environments (e.g., Teams, Zoom, or e-portfolio systems like Smart Assessor / OneFile), as well as classroom environments.
- Differentiated Learning: Ability to adapt teaching strategies for diverse learner backgrounds, neurodivergent students, or those with SEN/ESOL needs.

- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage learner caseloads and target completion dates.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with an encouraging, supportive teaching style.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS check (or agreement to undergo one prior to employment) and Right to Work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
- Valid Assessor Qualification (e.g., CAVA, TAQA, or A1).
- Experience embedding English skills within apprenticeships or vocational training frameworks.
- Prior experience delivering online/hybrid blended learning courses.
Each course will involve 16 hours of guided learning delivered over two weeks, with two teaching sessions per week. We are offering a rate of £18 to £22 per hour, depending on experience.
