About the role
As an Online Simulation Engineer, you will implement and monitor the configuration, deployment, development and use of our online simulation tool to ensure it is an up-to-date and secure tool, that is an accurate reflection of the National Transmission System (NTS) for use by the National Control Centre, allowing them to safely deliver on our prime objective of delivering gas safely and efficiently.
This is a flow-through role, offering a clear progression pathway through the grading structure. Progression is based on the successful demonstration of the technical and professional competencies required at each grade, together with consistently performing to the standards expected of the next level.
What you'll be doing
- Control and configure the SIMONE online simulation system so that the NTS is accurately represented along with the connected systems within SIMONE as required to support safe control of operation, at all times, so that it can be used for decision-making and operation of the NTS to ensure that both planned and unplanned maintenance on the NTS is facilitated.
- Review NTS maintenance to assess for impact to the simulation and develop strategies to represent said maintenance accurately within the simulation software.
- Conduct Health Checks of Simulation Software and investigate and resolve any errors found, as well as supporting the control room with technical support for online simulation models and tools so that issues within the system are rectified promptly.
- Train new Online Simulation Engineers to increase the capability and resilience of the team.
- Identify inefficiencies in team processes and implement creative solutions to address these to provide time, cost or efficiency savings.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the business to collaborate on projects, best practice and optimise utilisation of simulation tools by control room teams and the network analysis team.
- Implement and manage the processes, procedures and standards for configuration and utilisation of online simulation tools to support best practice in safe control of operation.
- Plan, prepare and implement updates to our common network model utilised between our Online and Offline Simulations so that our offline network analysis is as accurate as possible.

What you'll bring

You’re an experienced communicator and collaborator, able to build rapport with stakeholders at all levels. Your proactive approach and analytical mindset mean you’re always looking for ways to add value and solve problems before they arise.
Essential
- Proven communicator with ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across all stakeholders.
- Excellent numerical ability and demonstrable analytical and logical thinking.
- Proven conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to understand technical concepts and accurately distil detailed and complex information simply and effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time.
- Recognised engineering or technical qualification (degree level or equivalent), and/or significant professional experience working with Mathematical Simulation Tools.

Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of mathematical network modelling, analysis and simulation tools.
- Understanding of the physical operation of the gas NTS
- Security clearance
