Overview
In this role, you will lead the optimisation of George.com’s digital customer experience and onsite merchandising strategy for your areas. You will be responsible for driving commercial performance, improving product discovery, and delivering data‑driven experience enhancements that support business growth.
You will act as a key influencer across Digital, Buying, Supply, and Marketing —ensuring our online shoppers enjoy an easy, fast and friendly experience every visit.
This role combines digital trading, analytics, merchandising strategy and customer experience innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Strategy & Trading Insights
- Support in the development and execution of the digital strategy.
- Lead, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual sales analysis (category, product, cart), presenting clear insight, risks, and opportunities.
- Deliver actionable commentary for weekly trade meetings and business reports that inform sales forecasting, range planning and product decisions.
- Track and report on category, product and cart performance, identifying trading patterns, risk and opportunities and recommending actions.
- Partner closely with Buying to interpret seasonal ecommerce strategies and provide deep analysis of digital product performance to guide future buying decisions.
On‑Site Merchandising & Product Discovery Optimisation
- Oversee day‑to‑day online merchandising across categories to ensure strong trading performance and aligned commercial priorities.
- Continuously optimise product findability, navigation, category pages and product pages to enhance relevance for different visitor segments.
- Manage all aspects of the online product catalogue to ensure accuracy, enrichment quality and customer relevance.
- Use platforms such as Algolia, Salesforce and onsite optimisation tools to improve product discovery, relevance and conversion.

Customer Experience & Journey Improvement
- Monitor customer behaviour and journey performance metrics (e.g., bounce rate, exit points, basket abandonment) to identify friction and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Product Team to recommend new features, enhancements and functionality that improve the overall user experience.
Trading Campaigns and Markdown
- Work cross‑functionally with Marketing teams to plan and deliver online campaigns, product launches and seasonal moments.
- Ensure homepage, landing page and promotional updates are executed accurately and at pace.
- Implement markdown strategy across the platform.
- Conduct weekly competitor reviews to maintain understanding of market trends, merchandising approaches and digital best practice.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, ecommerce behaviours and optimisation techniques, ensuring the business remains competitive.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in an ecommerce online trading/merchandising role.
- Proven expertise in digital trading, onsite optimisation, or product discovery management within online retail.
- Strong analytical skills with a data‑driven mindset and the ability to translate insight into action.
- Proficiency with tools such as Algolia, Salesforce, Adobe Analytics, ContentSquare,
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast‑paced trading environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills—proactive, resourceful and able to take initiative.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability, with confidence leading cross‑functional discussions.
- A positive, solutions‑focused attitude and a collaborative approach.

Over and above this, each area of Asda may have additional requirements which may require spending more days in the office, visiting suppliers, stores or depots.
