Teaching opportunities from January 2027
The Kong Academy is looking for engaging bilingual tutors to help students aged 14–18 build confidence, think independently, communicate clearly and take responsibility for their actions. We are recruiting up to three tutors for a small tutor pool. Individual teaching assignments will depend on student enrolment and tutor availability.

Our approach is inspired by principles such as leading by example, lifelong learning and personal growth, drawing on Confucian thought. Our lessons help young people connect these principles to their everyday lives, relationships and ambitions.
What You Will Teach
Our online Foundation Programme brings together 6–15 students, initially based in mainland China, for six 90-minute sessions over four weeks.
Students explore how to:
- Understand situations and consider different perspectives.
- Listen effectively and communicate their ideas.
- Make decisions and put plans into action.
- Take responsibility for their choices.
- Reflect on their experiences and keep improving.
Each student works towards a personal ambition through a Reflection Journal and a Personal Action Project.
You will lead five sessions and support the final session, led by TKA founder James Kong. Classes are delivered in English, with Mandarin used when helpful to clarify difficult concepts. Students are expected to have approximately B2 English.
We provide the curriculum, lesson plans, activities and induction. No specialist knowledge of Confucian philosophy is required.

- Prepare and deliver interactive online lessons using TKA’s materials.
- Lead discussions, ask thoughtful questions and encourage independent thinking.
- Help students apply their learning to their own experiences and goals.
- Support quieter students and create a welcoming learning environment.
- Review journals and projects and provide concise individual written feedback.
- Keep attendance and participation records.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain professional boundaries.
- Share feedback with TKA after each cohort.
Who We Are Looking For
You will need:
- Fluent English and professional proficiency in Mandarin.
- A strong academic connection to a leading UK university through a completed degree, current postgraduate study, or a research or teaching role.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring or leading activities for teenagers.
- Confidence facilitating group discussions and explaining ideas clearly.
- A warm, patient and encouraging approach.
- An interest in leadership and young people’s personal development.
- A UK base, reliable internet connection and suitable equipment for online teaching.
- Availability for all six sessions of any cohort you accept, along with preparation, induction and feedback.
An Oxford or Cambridge background is particularly welcome. We also welcome applicants from other leading UK universities and a range of academic disciplines. Experience working with Chinese or international students, facilitating practical learning activities or teaching online would be an advantage.

Our first three scheduled cohorts are:
January 2027
9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 30 January
11:30–13:00 UK time (GMT)
February–March 2027
27 and 28 February; 6, 7, 13 and 20 March
11:30–13:00 UK time (GMT)

All sessions run from 19:30–21:00 China time.
You may apply for one or more cohorts. You do not need to be available for all three.
Pay and What Is Included
£750 per cohort for 6–10 students.
£25 for each additional student above ten.
£875 for a full cohort of 15 students.
The cohort fee includes agreed induction, preparation using the supplied materials, all six live sessions, student feedback, attendance records and a short post-programme review.
Payment arrangements for any required induction before a cohort booking will be agreed in advance. Substantial additional work will be agreed and paid separately.
How the Tutor Pool Works
Joining the tutor pool does not guarantee regular work or a minimum number of cohorts. We will offer specific cohorts according to enrolment, programme needs and your availability. You may accept or decline an offer. Each confirmed booking will have written terms covering dates, responsibilities, fees, payment timing and cancellation arrangements.
