About the Role
This is a critical and high-profile position within Great British Energy’s Supply Chain business. In December 2025, GBE announced ‘Energy, Engineered in the UK’, our approach to delivering £1bn of public funding to transform the UK’s energy industry and grow our domestic clean energy supply chain. We are already making significant progress, launching a £300m Offshore Wind and Networks Fund in December 2025 and announcing a £40m equity investment in the hydrogen sector in April 2026.
The role demands an energy professional with a detailed knowledge of the onshore energy supply chain, including Energy Storage, Solar, Onshore Wind (including repowering), and Onshore Electricity Networks. The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of GBE’s Supply Chain Investment Strategy, including leading on investment origination, industry engagement, and development of market intelligence.
The successful postholder will join a dynamic and inclusive multidisciplinary team of analysts, engineers, investment advisors, and strategy professionals and will be expected to represent GBE externally at visits, events, and working groups, for which some domestic travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic development and execution of GBE’s Onshore Supply Chain Investment Strategy, providing senior technical and commercial leadership to ensure maximum impact from our £1bn capital allocation.
- Take overall responsibility for onshore investment origination and pipeline development, identifying, prioritizing, and progressing high-value investment opportunities and developing a robust portfolio of potential transactions, reporting to the Managing Director to ensure alignment with our target returns and job creation targets.
- Provide senior technical and commercial leadership across the investment lifecycle, including acting as an adviser and critical friend to the Transactions Team by providing in-depth market insights.
- Develop and execute an industry engagement strategy for the onshore renewable sector, building and maintaining a network of senior stakeholders across component manufacturers, developers, EPCs, trade bodies, DNOs, and TOs, positioning GBE as a trusted and influential partner in the onshore renewable energy supply chain.
- Lead engagement with senior officials in DESNZ, Ofgem, and other public finance institutions to identify and proactively address regulatory and financial barriers to delivering key supply chain investments in the onshore energy sector.
- Actively participate in senior-level Boards, working groups, events, and site visits to represent GBE and promote our supply chain funding to the onshore energy sector.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the growing Onshore Supply Chain team, fostering an inclusive team culture, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the development of sector-leading expertise and capability in GBE.
- Recruit and build an Offshore Supply Chain Strategy team, supporting professional development and coaching new joiners.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
