Great British Energy Recruitment
Great British Energy is looking to recruit three Onshore/Offshore Investment Support and Sector Specialists, to be based in either Aberdeen or Edinburgh. This is a great opportunity to support investment activity across Great British Energy’s onshore energy portfolio. The roles will help identify, assess and deliver investment opportunities in technologies such as onshore wind, solar, co-located storage, flexible generation, and long duration energy storage.
You will work with colleagues across GBE, government, and the wider energy sector to support investments through their full lifecycle, from origination and early engagement through due diligence, approvals, delivery, and ongoing management. The role will suit someone who is interested in clean energy, enjoys working with a range of stakeholders, and can turn complex information into clear advice for senior decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support investment activity across the lifetime of onshore energy investments, from early market engagement through to transaction execution and ongoing portfolio support.
- Identify and help originate opportunities for GBE investment within defined areas including onshore wind, solar, co-located storage, flexible generation, and storage technologies, including long duration energy storage.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across the energy sector, public and private sector financial institutions, and government.
- Support the procurement and management of investment due diligence, including working with technical, legal, commercial, financial, and ESG advisers where required.
- Draft clear investment materials, briefing notes, and recommendations for senior colleagues, governance forums, and investment committees.
- Support the navigation of government approval and sign-off processes for GBE investment activity.
- Share specialist knowledge across GBE and support other teams where onshore energy, storage, or investment expertise is needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
