Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Ontology Engineer to build and maintain a canonical insurance ontology covering policy, coverage, underwriting, claims, and product taxonomy. You will design semantic models using OWL/RDF, collaborate with business stakeholders, and support AI, knowledge graph, and data platform initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and extend insurance ontologies using OWL, RDF, JSON-LD, and Turtle.
  • Define ontology governance, including naming conventions, namespaces, versioning, and validation.
  • Translate business requirements into semantic models by collaborating with underwriters, actuaries, and product teams.
  • Map source data (SQL, XML, Excel, etc.) to ontology models.
  • Support AI, knowledge graph, and analytics initiatives by delivering reusable semantic assets.
  • Maintain ontology quality, provenance (PROV-O), and release standards.

  • 4+ years of experience with OWL 2, RDF, RDFS, and SPARQL.
  • Proficiency in JSON-LD, Turtle, or RDF/XML.
  • Experience mapping enterprise data models to ontologies.
  • Knowledge of gist, FIBO, BFO, PROV-O, or Dublin Core.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Insurance domain experience.
  • Knowledge of FIBO or ACORD standards.
  • Experience with SHACL, knowledge graphs, AI/RAG applications.
  • Python scripting for ontology tooling and automation.
