About The Role

We are looking for an OpenCPI Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team at our Gloucester site. This exciting opportunity allows you to work on a variety of Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence programmes, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge RF systems. As an OpenCPI Senior Software Engineer you will work within a multi-skilled team, using the OpenCPI framework to build, test, and optimize software-defined radio systems and RF applications. You’ll work closely with peers, Delivery Managers, and Technical Leads to ensure that the customer mission requirements are achieved in efficient and innovative ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • OpenCPI Framework Utilization – Undertake the development and integration of software-defined radio systems using the OpenCPI framework.
  • System Design & Integration – Operate within a cross-functional team designing and integrating RF communication systems, ensuring seamless operation within complex mission environments.
  • Test & Measurement – Engage in test driven development strategies and consider testing throughout the development lifecycle of an application, leveraging OpenCPI for effective system verification and validation.
  • Software Optimization – Optimize the performance of OpenCPI-based systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability on an exciting variety of hardware platforms.
  • Innovation – Embrace the use of the latest AI/ML tooling and hybrid cloud compute environments to deliver results that continually outpace and challenge the status quo.
  • Collaboration & Reporting – Use Agile principles and strong communication to work with peers and leaders to ensure that our delivery is providing the right solution on time.

Security clearance

This role requires you to be able to obtain and maintain eDV security clearance.

You don’t need to hold eDV clearance when you apply. If you don’t currently have it, we’ll support you through the application process.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Using the OpenCPI framework, including the development of OSPs, components, applications, and tests
  • Working with RF communications and software-defined radio technologies & architectures
  • Working knowledge of digital signal processing, algorithm or payload development, and embedded system design
  • Competent in C/C++ and/or VHDL for embedded applications, and additionally with Python

Desired Skills

  • EW or SIGINT capability development (including RF waveform and protocol vulnerability analysis)
  • Familiarity with GnuRadio, MatLab, AMD EDF, or other SDR development tools
  • FPGA/RFSOC development experience and competency in VHDL (or Verilog)
  • Commercial and Military communications stacks and modem development (e.g., IEEE 802.x, COFDM, Satcoms, or Link 16)
  • Working in AWS and CICD pipelined environments, especially with GitLab and Linux
  • Real-time test and measurement, using tools such as vector signal analyzers

Experience in some of these areas is advantageous, but this is not a checklist, and we don’t expect one person to know them all. We’ll support you in learning new project-specific technologies, including opportunities to explore practical uses of AI within software development.

Professional certifications are welcome - we’d love to know what qualifications you can bring to the team - but they aren’t essential.
