Operational Consultant – SWIFT & Trade Lifecycle (Contract)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operational Consultant / Securities Operations SME with strong expertise across SWIFT, securities operations and post-trade to support a major Wealth & Asset Management transformation programme.

The consultant will use their industry expertise to define requirements, advise on best practice and support operational decision-making across the end-to-end trade lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise across SWIFT messaging, securities settlement and post-trade operations.
  • Lead operational discussions with custodians, brokers and external service providers.
  • Define SWIFT, settlement and operational requirements based on industry practice and best practice.
  • Advise on messaging, acknowledgements, matching, settlement, reconciliation, exceptions and failure scenarios.
  • Define requirements for SWIFT message flows, SSIs, static/reference data, account structures and settlement configuration.
  • Translate external requirements into recommendations for internal operational processes, technology configuration and controls.
  • Identify operational risks, dependencies and gaps across the trade lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance through testing, implementation and operational readiness.

Required Experience

  • Deep practical experience within Securities Operations, Investment Operations or Post-Trade, ideally within or working closely with asset managers and custodians.
  • Strong knowledge of SWIFT securities messaging, including relevant MT and/or ISO 20022 MX messages and supporting messaging infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of the securities trade lifecycle, including confirmation, matching, settlement, cash and securities movements, reconciliation and exception management.
  • Strong knowledge of Standing Settlement Instructions (SSIs), static/reference data and settlement configuration.
  • Significant experience working directly with custodians, brokers and other market participants/service providers.
  • Ability to independently define requirements and recommend appropriate solutions based on industry experience and best practice.
  • Strong understanding of the operational controls and risks associated with SWIFT messaging and securities settlement.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with ISO 20022 and SWIFT messaging transformation.
  • Knowledge of OMS, IBOR/ABOR, custody and investment operations environments.
  • Experience onboarding custodians, counterparties, markets, accounts or services.
  • Experience defining or reviewing operating models and operational controls within investment management.

About You

You will bring strong practical experience across SWIFT, securities operations and post-trade, with the ability to work confidently with both internal stakeholders and external service providers. You should be comfortable providing expert advice, defining operational requirements, identifying risks and supporting the implementation of effective operational processes and controls.
