Assistant Vice President - Operations Control & Resilience

Drive Risk Excellence Within a Leading Financial Institution

A highly respected financial services organisation is seeking an Assistant Vice President - Operations Control & Resilience to join its growing Business Risk & Controls function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational risk, controls, audit, or resilience professional looking to take on a broad and visible role within a regulated environment. You'll play a key role in strengthening the organisation's control framework, enhancing operational resilience capabilities, and delivering assurance activities that support business continuity and regulatory compliance.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across operations, risk, compliance, technology, and business functions, you will help shape a robust control environment while supporting strategic resilience initiatives.

The Opportunity

As an AVP within the Operations Control & Resilience team, you will:

  • Lead and perform control testing, quality assurance reviews, and control validation activities
  • Partner with control owners to identify weaknesses, manage remediation plans, and strengthen operational controls
  • Support and challenge Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) across business functions
  • Conduct walkthroughs, testing procedures, and evidence reviews to assess control effectiveness
  • Analyse control deficiencies and provide recommendations to mitigate operational risk exposure
  • Contribute to operational resilience programmes, including Important Business Services (IBS), impact tolerances, scenario testing, and contingency planning activities
  • Support governance, executive reporting, and regulatory submissions
  • Assist with crisis management, business continuity, and resilience assurance initiatives
  • Promote strong control ownership and a risk-aware culture across the organisation
  • Work with senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement of risk, control, and resilience frameworks

About You

The successful candidate is likely to have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Operational Risk
  • Controls Testing & Assurance
  • Internal Audit
  • Compliance Monitoring
  • Business Continuity Management
  • Operational Resilience
  • Non-Financial Risk Management

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience within Financial Services, ideally Banking or Capital Markets
  • Strong understanding of operational risk and control frameworks
  • Experience performing control testing, quality assurance reviews, risk assessments, or audit activities
  • Knowledge of UK Operational Resilience regulations and industry expectations
  • Exposure to Incident Management, Crisis Management, Business Continuity, or Resilience frameworks
  • Experience supporting or conducting RCSA activities
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio

Desirable Experience

  • Understanding of DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act)
  • Exposure to assurance standards such as SOC 2, ISAE 3000, or similar control frameworks
  • Experience supporting Operational Resilience, IBS mapping, impact tolerance assessments, or scenario testing
