Early Intervention in Psychosis Operational Lead

Band 8a

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and innovative leader to join the NELFT Barking and Dagenham Early Intervention in Psychosis Team at Barking Community Hospital. This permanent, full-time role offers a salary within Band 8a (£57,528 - £64,750) for 37.5 hours per week.

About The Opportunity

This pivotal Band 8a role will provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership to the Barking and Dagenham Early Intervention in Psychosis Team. The post holder will be responsible for the effective day-to-day functioning of the service and for ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based and patient-focused care.

Working collaboratively with clinical leads and the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will lead on service performance, workforce planning, quality improvement, governance, service development, innovation and digital transformation.

We are seeking an exceptional leader with significant NHS operational management experience, a strong understanding of Early Intervention in Psychosis services and a demonstrable commitment to transformational change.

The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership, supervision, support and professional guidance to nursing and allied health professional staff within the service. They will also support staff development through coaching, training, effective supervision and performance management.

  • Leading the operational delivery and ongoing development of the Early Intervention in Psychosis service.
  • Ensuring the service meets agreed local and national key performance indicators and quality standards.
  • Monitoring service performance and implementing timely improvement plans where required.
  • Ensuring the service operates in accordance with CQC standards, statutory requirements and relevant clinical guidance.
  • Embedding robust governance arrangements, including clinical audits, quality assurance processes, risk management and learning from incidents.
  • Developing and implementing effective workforce strategies to meet changing demand and service priorities.
  • Maintaining strong partnerships with GPs, acute hospitals, local authority services, internal teams, commissioners, voluntary sector organisations, patients and carers.
  • Promoting multidisciplinary and interagency working to ensure coordinated and responsive care.
  • Managing the delegated budget and cost centre effectively, ensuring financial balance and the efficient use of available resources.
  • Ensuring accurate, timely and up-to-date performance, quality and workforce information is available to commissioners, senior managers, the CQC and local authority partners as required.

In return, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and influence the future development of Early Intervention in Psychosis services while working within a supportive, ambitious and forward-thinking leadership team.

Essential Skills And Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification with student mentor experience.
  • Significant experience in managing healthcare staff and services.
  • Comprehensive and extensive mental health nursing skills for adults, including those over 65 years.
  • Substantial experience in clinical team management.
  • Proven experience in setting and managing budgets or delegated budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in managing change effectively.
  • Evidence of contributing to clinical governance frameworks, such as audit or standards-setting groups.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining partnerships with external agencies and professional leads.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, CEME)

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
