Operational Manager

G4S Care and Rehabilitation Services

Oakhill Secure Training Centre, Milton Keynes, MK5 6AJ

Salary: £48,590.88 per annum

Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre, we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

Oakhill Secure Training Centre is looking to employ an Operational Manager to provide effective management of the relevant functional department and activities in line with customer and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all audits/assurance statements relevant to your functional area are conducted and contractual obligations and KPI’s are met.
  • Work collaboratively with other functional managers/colleagues to ensure that the centre delivers to maximum capacity.
  • Manage the non-effective for your function with a key focus on control of sickness absence, TOIL, and achieving annual leave and training targets.
  • Ensure all PDRs and supervisions are completed on time and are subject to an effective quality assurance process.
  • Ensure all direct reports have regular 1:1 supervision and that these are conducted throughout the function.
  • Respond thoroughly and within time parameters to all child queries, complaints and grievances related to the function.
  • Promote a concept of community inclusion, ensuring that all equality and diversity standards are maintained at all times.
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Safety processes and make recommendations about risk and non-compliance to ensure such issues are managed effectively within the establishment.
  • Quality Assure and maintain records and risk assessments on all children considered to be at risk so that accurate information is readily available.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reports and analysis around trends and hotspots - analysing and acting upon information which will support the Operational teams.
  • Deliver data and reports for performance reviews to ensure effective practice meetings to maximise continuous improvement.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting in relation to Deployment & Training, including KPIs and minimum staffing levels.
  • Act as Duty Director and to ensure that all incident reporting procedures are followed along with the effective management of incidents.
  • Conduct investigations and projects as requested by the Director/Deputy Director.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health and Safety culture across the site through leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

Essential Skills

  • Proven managerial experience.
  • High level of resilience.
  • Experience of managing and supporting people and dealing with HR people issues.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2023 guidance.

Desirable Skills

  • Degree Level Qualification or working towards Leadership and Management qualification.
